Cary Clack Co-author – The Passions of Our Culture Cary Clack was born and raised in San Antonio. Cary Clack is a well-respected columnist for the San Antonio Express News. He writes on local and national events. Before his writing career with the newspaper, Cary was a Scholar-intern at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta, Georgia. He wrote CNN commentaries for Mrs. Coretta Scott King from 1988 to1995. He also served as a trainer in non-violence at King Center Workshops for high school and college students. He has won the Dallas Press Club’s Katie Award for Best General Column and the 2008 Friends of the San Antonio Public Library’s Arts and Letters Award for writing. Cary has done a short essay for the anthology on the history and importance of the Tuskegee Airmen as a part of Black culture and pride. In 1995, he was hired full-time as a reporter and columnist. He left the paper to join Joaquin Castro’s first congressional campaign, later serving as Rep. Castro’s district director. He rejoined Express-News as a member of the Editorial Board in 2019. In 2017 he was inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters.
